「50代・60代からシニア留学に挑戦してみたいけれど、若い人ばかりだったらどうしよう…」と不安になっていませんか？
現在85歳の私が、60代の時に初めて挑戦したのが「カナダ国際大学」での1ヶ月間の長期留学でした。ここは50歳以上の熟年世代を対象とした「滞在型異文化体験ツアー」が用意されており、シニア初心者にもぴったりな環境です。

カナダ国際大学は、普段は日本の学生を受け入れて語学や異文化を教える学校ですが、合間にシニア世代も受け入れています。50歳以上の熟年世代を対象とした1ヶ月間の「滞在型異文化体験プログラム」で、現地の生活に溶け込みながら異文化を直接肌で経験できるのが魅力です。
プログラムには「英語をじっくり勉強するタイプ」と「異文化体験を中心に学ぶタイプ」の2種類があり、希望に合わせて選ぶことができます。
私が参加したのは第10期生（平成13年9月4日〜10月3日）でした。全国から集まった合計67名の留学生たちは、東京と大阪の空港からそれぞれカナダのバンクーバーへと旅立ちました。大学はバンクーバーの北に位置しており、空港からは専用バスに乗って、いよいよカナダ国際大学の門をくぐったのです。
My first milestone long-term study abroad experience took place at the ‘Canadian International College (CIC)’.
Whilst this university usually welcomes Japanese students to teach them languages and cross-cultural studies, it also accepts senior learners during its breaks. The appeal of this one-month ‘residential cross-cultural experience programme’, aimed at people aged 50 and over, lies in the opportunity to immerse oneself in local life and experience a different culture first-hand.
There are two types of programme: one focused on intensive English study and the other centred on cross-cultural experiences, allowing participants to choose according to their preferences.
I was part of the 10th group (4 September to 3 October 2001). A total of 67 participants from all over Japan set off for Vancouver, Canada, from airports in Tokyo and Osaka respectively. The university is located north of Vancouver, and after taking a private bus from the airport, we finally passed through the gates of Canadian International College (CIC).
